The Lake Bracciano, originally also called Lake Sabatino is a lake of volcanic origin located in the north of the province of Rome.

Its maximum depth of 164 meters, in turn, makes it the sixth largest Italian lake depth (the second of central Italy after Lake Albano).

The present village was founded in 1236 on a previous small village dating back to the seventh century when the inhabitants of nearby Caere (Cerveteri) abandoned it to move to a position better defense of course.

In 1980 , during a restoration , on a building wall came to light of the frescoes of the Roman School dating from the twelfth century and depicting scenes from the Old Testament and stories from the life of St. Sylvester.
